About Me

Welcome!

My name is Sarah Ali and I have essentially been living out of my suitcase since 2011 when I first decided to study abroad in Nanjing, China.

I have always been interested in traveling and going off to new places more so because I have always been told by my family that I should stay close to home. Part of that stems from being raised by Bengali parents along with the fact that I'm a second generation Asian American. My family just didn't understand why I wanted to travel so far to so many places when life in the United States was so comfortable. However, people fascinate me and I like learning about different cultures. You never truly understand the story of a people unless you actually hear it from them yourself.

My first real adventure abroad was when I participated in the BUNAC scheme to work abroad in the United Kingdom during the summer of my freshman year. That experience really fueled my desire to go abroad to as many places as I could.

Since then I have worked, studied, volunteered, and traveled abroad. I even had a brief stint in working as a travel agent! Because of my travels I have had a wide range of experiences ranging from eating some strange food in China with some of my coworkers and students like duck blood, bull frog, snake, and camel's milk ice cream to living and volunteering in a remote village on a pacific island.

Starting your journey abroad can be a big step. I remember how nervous I was before I decided to first go abroad and how I had a million questions about what the experience was going to be like. This blog is meant to be a resource to students who are thinking of studying abroad or traveling. Additionally, I am going to include some tips and tricks on how you can use your study abroad experience to work abroad. Lastly, its also going to be a place where I can chronicle my experiences as I head back to the UK and embark on studying abroad at the University of Leicester as a post graduate masters student.

If you have any questions about working, studying, volunteering or traveling abroad feel free to contact me.
