They say that when you go to a new place you are bound to get sick. For the past couple days I have had what people refer to as "Freshers Flu." Its basically used to describe any type of illness that University students get in their first few weeks of school. I think I am almost at the end of my cycle of being sick with freshers flu but unfortunately for me having freshers flu has triggered my asthma so I am off to go get an inhaler from my local doctor or GP.
The process for registering for the GP (general practitioner) is fairly straight forward. Once you have registered as a student who is studying in the United Kingdom for over 6 months, you are entitled to free healthcare with the NHS (National Health Service). All you have to do is go to your local GP fill out some paper work and show proof that you are a student. Once you do that, you should receive an NHS card and you are good to go. However, even though it is free to see a doctor you still have to pay for prescriptions, which is more than fair considering you get a free doctor visit.
